BAND BIOGRAPHY

Sam Scares is an alternative metal band formed in Catalonia (Spain), originally conceived as a solo project by Sergi Aparici Mañé (Sam) in 2015. Their music is characterized by a mix of modern metal, dark melodies, and introspective lyrics, all accompanied by strong visual and conceptual elements.

Beginnings (2015–2016)

The project began as a personal means of expression for Sergi, who started by independently publishing his first compositions. That same year, he released the music video for "Welcome to the Crazyland," a powerful and festive song recorded with the collaboration of childhood friends during a chaotic party at a local nightclub. Shortly after, he presented "Just One More Day", an intimate ballad with guitar and vocals, featuring Aleix Ramon, now a renowned composer of video game soundtracks.

In early 2016, Sam Scares released their first self-titled album, composed and produced entirely by Sergi (Sam). After the release, he began searching for musicians to bring the project to the stage.

Formation of the band and early successes (2016–2018)

The first official lineup included Iván Fireworks (bass), Sebas Sampieri (drums), Marc Bernad and Iván Buendía (guitars), with Sam as vocalist. With this lineup, the band released the single "For Them You'll Die", one of their most successful songs, accompanied by a high-impact music video.

In 2017, Sam Scares began their concert tour in Catalonia and released the single "The Falling Man", anticipating a new album. The band worked with producer Damien Rainaud (DragonForce, Babymetal, Fear Factory, Machine Head) at his studio in Los Angeles to record the album and signed a record deal with Rock Estatal Records. During this process, Iván Buendía left the band.

In 2018, they released the single "Save Me" a metal ballad featuring vocals by Eva M. Gracia, and finally released their second album, The Falling Man, with which they toured extensively in venues and festivals throughout Spain.

Artistic expansion and collaborations (2019–2020)

In 2019, they continued their live performances. At one of their concerts, they shared the stage with the Swiss band Burning Witches, with whom they established a good relationship. This connection led to a collaboration with Sonia Anubis (formerly of Burning Witches, currently with Cobra Spell) on the song "The Nothingness".

During those years, Sam collaborated with French composer Peter Crowley on the single "Dark Ship", alongside iconic vocalist Elisa C. Martín. They also worked with several emerging international artists from Canada, Uruguay, Argentina, the United States, and Spain.

Driven by creativity, they began to develop instrumental pieces with the intention of creating a web series based on the narrative universe of their songs, although the project never came to fruition.

Pandemic, introspection, and transformation (2020–2021)

The arrival of the pandemic in 2020 brought concerts to a halt and led to the departure of drummer Sebas. During this period, the band composed and released the single "Claustrofobia", their first song in Spanish (although technically the second, as the debut album included a Spanish version of the song "Mama"). This song won the Best Song award at a horror film festival in Panama. They were also invited to an online festival organized by Argentine music media.

Later, they released "Alone", a song that reflected the loneliness and emotional exhaustion Sam was going through as he watched the project fall apart. Despite the difficulties, in 2021 they returned to the stage with a new drummer, Alejandro Garcia, and presented two powerful singles: "Self-Proclaimed God" and "Cannibal Picnic", with a darker and more complex sound. The new album they were planning was canceled after the band's indefinite dissolution.

Rebirth and new phase (2024–present)

After several years of silence, Sam met Bryan Ballesta, who encouraged him to resume the project. Although initially hesitant, Sam accepted, also counting on the support of Iván, the original bassist. Before starting again, they released a song they had saved that was supposed to be part of that dark album that never came out, "When Barbie Killed Ken", a collaboration with pianist María Que, a friend of Sam's. At the end of 2024, the project came to life again with the addition of Artur Céspdes (guitar) and Toni Vilches (drums).

In 2025, they released the single "The Hope of the Undead", a metaphor for artistic rebirth and perseverance. This was followed by the powerful "Death Is Knocking", and... the band's official return to the stage is scheduled for the summer of 2025.
